Ages 3-5
What happens if we microwave soap? Is it possible to walk on raw eggs? How can you tell time with the sun? What ingredients go in slime? How do you make lemonade that explodes? Campers will experiment with everything from citric acid to the color of fire and more.
Using the forest as a laboratory, campers will also learn about the critters on the forest floor (and below it!), fungi that grows on different surfaces, leaves that tell of plant sickness, how to propagate from forest cuttings and more. Our farm adds a deeper level of opportunity for exploring our budding food forest and silvopastures.
Finally, no sci-fun camp would be complete without LEGOS! Campers will be given age-appropriate challenges to create bridges, leaning towers, arcs and more.
Ages 6-11
Campers are in for a week of creation, maker activities, exciting discoveries and weird food! Campers will build a sawdust kiln and fire their own pottery in it, work in teams to solve an actual Belle Vie Farm challenge, gather unusual forest mushrooms and fungi to view under the microscope, grow a microgreen seed in a transparent planter to track its speedy development, and so much more!
Our counselors know that science includes everything from making bath bombs to constructing bridges and buildings. We will plan activities in botany, chemistry, physics, geology, astronomy and other branches, but we will also listen to the inquiries of the campers. What are they curious about? What have they always wanted to make but never had a chance? What have they tried to make, but failed and want to try again?
BVF's Sci-Fun Exploratorium will be a week of inspiring and addictive exploration and inquiry!
